A Constructed Truth

A Constructed Truth is an essay I wrote during my Writing in Art & Design ULWR course, which analyzed a collection of photographs by Jamie Diamond. My main argument throughout this essay is that through recreating her childhood memories through staged photographs, she both acknowledges the façade of family and also validates this falseness within the family. This essay allowed me to examine an artist who was influential to my own work, and dissect and investigate why their work is so meaningful. This analysis also allowed me to develop my seeing skills when it comes to others artwork, but also my own artwork. And, it allowed me to develop the language used when writing about other visual work. All of these impacted how I analyze my own work now, and how I imbue my own work with meaning.
